 Upper Caragh July 2003 Report
Dermot O’Carroll reports “You will remember Tessa and Richard Affleck from “The Boot Inn”, the Bridge, Stockbridge, Hants. Well, they continued their first rate showmanship into July with six nice, 5 and 6-pounders, four on Pool 7, one on Pool 6. Richard landed a nice 5.5 lb fish on a Toby in Cloon Lough. They ended their friendly competition splitting the catch almost equally and departing Glencar House this year again, after a very satisfying fishing vacation. Let’s say determination pays! Jenny and Anthony Newhouse from England, fishing Pool 6 and 8, caught a total of four fresh grilse (4 lb plus) under the expert guidance of Russell Whiteman. The Newhouses were kind enough to express their warm satisfaction towards Glencar House and the Upper Caragh River Fishery.
Our own Tommy Connor was back in the boat again on Cloon Lough, landing a very fine 11-pounder using a Toby. The following day, also on Cloon, Dr. Mulvillhill always productive, demonstrated his talent and great love for fishing with a nice fresh 4-pounder. All in all, if the weather had behaved itself, it just might have been great, as it was, it ended being less than a brilliant month’s showing”.
