River Barrow - Monday, 1 November 1999
The water levels were ideal for angling until Saturday 18th September when heavy rain in the three catchments (Barrow, Nore, and Suir) resulted in water levels rising quickly. Since then, levels have remained very high.
On the River Barrow, 2 members of the Carlow/Graigcullen Angling Club, Joe and Brian Nolan, enjoyed excellent fishing at St. Mullins with Joe landing 6 fish and Brian landing 7. An angler from South Wexford managed to land 3 Salmon and lost a couple more. Several other anglers also reported landing fish. A total of thirty eight salmon were recorded at St. Mullins for the week. Reports from the Muinebheag (Bagnalstown) and Leighnbridge areas of the Barrow indicate that anglers enjoyed some great fishing also until water levels rose and spoiled fishing in the last week of the season.
