The first rain in over six weeks fell in Glencar on the 15th of March. It was just what was needed to get things back on track. The river rose from below summer level to a raging brown flood in a very short period and it was on the evening of the 16th that local Cork angler Pat Mostyn opened the March accounts with a fine fresh springer of 13 lbs from pool 6. The fish fell to a flying ‘C’ in falling water. That evening another local angler Paudie Hobbert landed another fish again from pool 6 on a flying ‘C’ weighing just over 9 lbs. Ralph Doppler started his weeks fishing in style, landing another good fish again, from pool 6, just hours after he landed in Kerry Airport. On St. Patrick’s Day Pat Mostyn scored again on pool 5 with a small fish of 7 lbs with sea lice. Visiting angler Peter Connolly from Northern Ireland took a fresh fish while trolling on Caragh on the same day. The river dropped over the next few days and as usual Caragh Lake was fished more. Long time visitor Edith Dobson with her brother Eric landed her first fish of 2005 on Caragh Lake. Eric Dobson landed an 11 lb fish the following day on Caragh Lake the green and gold toby again taking the honors. There have been some cancellations in late April and early May due to the illness of a longtime customer. Anyone looking for an excellent Spring Salmon Fishing Holiday should come and give it a go. For a weeks fishing on the river you can also fish 3 private lakes and indeed Caragh Lake with boats and engines included at no extra cost.
