Lough Corrib Mayfly Report
Saturday, 31 May 2008
The mayfly season is over for another year on Corrib, after a disappointing month of May. Extremely bright and calm conditions for over a week saw poor fishing, with good hatches in places during the rest of the month bringing on sporadic bouts of feeding by trout. The absence of any gales during the month meant that for the first time in several years, all the females will have been able to return to the lake to lay their eggs, instead of being blown to west Connemara, so hatches next year should see a big improvement. The lake is quiet again now, with late evening buzzer and sedge hatches providing the best sport. Sedge hatches should pick up a lot as the weather warms and hopefully some decent trout will be feeding late in the evenings.
